Reader 8:00am: Leslie Ann Hayashi

Leslie Ann Hayashi - a judge, author, artist, and educator.  It’s hard to say exactly when my story began. One thing is for sure: many more chapters remain to be written. I grew up in Wahiawa and ever since I can remember, I dreamed of being an author. I spent weekends in our local library which was a wooden portable structure. Boards creaked as I browsed along the shelves. But the books transported me to yesterday, the future and worlds I could only imagine. Today my love of books, libraries and bookstores continues.

Reader 8:30am: Sue Cowing

Sue Cowing lives near Mauanalua Bay where she watches the sun rise over Koko Crater most mornings. She loves to write poetry and stories for all ages, but especially for children 7-14. BeachHouse Publications asked her to write a Shel Silverstein-style book of poems, but with all Hawai’i settings, and so, with illustrations by Jon J. Murakami, My Dog Has Flies was born. Her other books for children include Fire in the Sea; An Anthology of Poetry and Art, and a puppet-and-boy novel, You Will Call Me Drog, which was  a three-time nominee for the annual Nene Children’s Choice Award.
